GeekdadozI’m the antipodean GeekDad. I write from Australia on pet topics like role-playing for kids, iPhone apps for kids and raising our young geeklets.

I started writing for GeekDad.com last September, but I’ve been reading GeekDad.com for about 18 months. I discovered it through the modern oracle of our time, Google searching for activities I could do with my children. GeekDad.com was full of them.

What distinguishes this blog from so many others is the way the contributors write intelligently about raising children, geek culture and family life in modern society with a sense of humor and humility. This blog does not claim to be more than a group of GeekDads sharing their experiences, pointing to what they have discovered and enjoying the responses. GeekDad.com not only respects its readership, it values it – but it also respects and values their children. It is a blog for our times. It wants us all to keep thinking critically, finding solutions and having fun while doing it. Happy Anniversary.

My Favorite Post(s)
My favorite GeekDad post was actually a series of three by Michael Harrison on World Building. “How to build a world – The Basics, Questions to Ask and Working with Wikis” were three excellent posts discussing how to tap into your child’s imagination and support them to turn it into who knows what else. The potential for engagement was really enhanced by Michael’s tips and I see this type of article as the key to what GeekDad does well. It brings parents and children together to tackle problems, be creative and explore the world as equals.
