Like most bloggers, the Gadget Lab crew loves to hear from you. The debate, arguments, corrections and additional information provided by reader comments add a huge amount of value to the stories we publish here. We love you because, by participating in our stories, you make us all smarter -- readers and reporters alike.

Did we make a mistake? Great -- let us know about it. Am I crazy as a loon for saying something? Great, call me on it. Did we get something right or show you something cool you didn't know about before? By all means say so.

But there are some ground rules:

  • Spam will be deleted.
  • Messages filled with hateful garbage will be deleted.
  • Off-topic comments that add nothing to the discussion are fair game for deletion.
  • We're not fastidious about profanity. But comments that are little more than swear words, with no real content, are likely to get deleted.
  • We don't tolerate sock-puppetry (using multiple names to make it look like you've got a posse when in fact you're just one person).

Strong opinions and strong language are fine, assuming they're in service of an on-topic point or a statement that contributes to the discussion.

OK: "You're an idiot, because you've deliberately overlooked the fact that Apple's products are overpriced and overdesigned."

Not OK: "You suck @#$%, you @##@ing fanboy @#$%#$%^&*."

Because we're busy and because our commenting system frustrates us as much as it must frustrate you, we sometimes overlook violations of the above rules. If that happens, drop me a line with the URL of the post and the name of the commenter you have a problem with, and I'll look into it.
