Sharing-Books.com is a grand idea.

It aims to bring authors, illustrators and readers together through a creative social network site that not only allows the tellers of stories to get the words to an audience, but aims to raise money for charity at the same time.

This website should be of interest to you on at least one level. If you write or draw and have ever created a story for children, you can submit the story here for people to read, download or even print and have mailed to you.

If you are a reader or a parent you can visit this site and download original picture books and stories for your children. These are texts you won’t find on the book shelves and are a great example of how much publishing is changing and how we can access a large range of different and diverse texts for our children.

As with all content driven sites, content can be rated and the whole system will rely on a large number of contributors, readers and members to get to a level of connection and activity that makes the many and varied aspects of the site like “most read books,” “most loved books” and “newest shared books” have value.

At the time of writing, the site had 119 texts listed. I found they varied significantly in quality, but the passion for children and children’s literature was evident in them all.

This is a new site that could really thrive if it finds the right links. I’d encourage GeekDad readers to get behind it. Go over, register and see if you can’t find a book to read to your children tonight. And, lets hope those flexible screens come on the market soon.
