Chryslers emblazoned with roof lights and a police department logo make us nervous. When such a vehicle is parked outside a KGB office in Belarus and a Man in Black is glaring at us, our nervousness turns to panic.
Minsk is the capital of what former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice called "Europe's last dictatorship." That, coupled with its imposing Stalinist architecture and temperatures lower than the value of Belarussian rubles, made it sound like the perfect spot for a vacation. We happened upon this brand new Chrysler 300C Touring in full police getup whilst strolling down Karl Marx Street (really). Sure, it's a Dodge Magnum with a Chrysler grill, but the chrome appearance package makes it stand out from the usual GAZ 3110s.
We soon learned what that brush bar was for.
Its purpose became clearer than a shot of Stolichnaya when some hapless guy in a Lada ran a red light. Let's just say he got, um, "stopped" without Johnny Lawski using his siren or roof lights. You'll forgive us, then, for high-tailing it in the general direction of the U.S. embassy after snapping this shot.
We never did get the story behind this car, but that only makes it excellent fodder for another in our recurring, if sporadic, series of Autopia WTF? Photo Caption Contests. Get in touch with your inner Yakov Smirnoff
(Sample joke: "In Soviet Russia, car pulls you over!") and offer up your best caption. Winner gets 100 honest-to-goodness Belarussian rubles , which aside being a great name for a punk band comes to about 3.5 cents. We'll toss in something else, once we find a suitable prize lying around the office. The catch? You've gotta make absolutely sure you let us know how to get in touch with you. Last time we did this, we couldn't contact the winner so he didn't get his schwag. We promise not to pass your info along to the authorities in Minsk.
