As the producers of Watchmen released statements attacking 20th Century Fox's claims on their film, Warner Bros. requested a faster decision on whether it can release the movie on March 6.
Both Larry Gordon and Lloyd Levin published letters this week dismissing Fox's claims on Watchmen and praising Warner Bros. for taking a chance on a big-budget movie no one else seemed to want. Levin went so far as to urge folks at Fox to forgo thoughts of money and lawsuits and do the right thing by dismissing their claim. That sort of thing always happens in Hollywood.
Meanwhile, Warner Bros. evidently can't stand the suspense and asked for a quicker decision from U.S. District Judge Gary A. Feess on whether they can release the movie in March. It's a dangerous move, considering Feess' preliminary ruling favoring Fox's right to distribute the film. Both sides will meet Friday in court to discuss that accelerated pace.
