Ray Dennis Steckler, writer/director/star of one of the most wonderfully bad movies of all time, The Incredibly Strange Creatures Who Stopped Living and Became Mixed-Up Zombies!!?, is dead at the age of 70.
Best known to most movie and TV fans through the ridiculing of his work via Mystery Science Theater 3000 (above), Steckler learned filmmaking in the armed services and went on to direct 28 B-movies (and that’s grading on a scale). But Steckler stands shoulder-to-shoulder with Ed Wood and Coleman Francis in the sheer audacity of his gutsy averageness.
He is survived by four daughters and two grandchildren.
