Unhinged television talking head Stephen Colbert landed his first Beatle on Wednesday for a new recurring feature called "Better Know a Beatle." But was it Paul McCartney that walked away with the pop-cultural cachet?

"I have to warn you," Colbert explained to McCartney at the outset of their chat (embedded), "you are about to get something called 'The Colbert Bump.' Don't be surprised the next time you're walking down the street and someone says, 'Oh my God! I know that guy! I saw that guy on Colbert!'"

McCartney, on hand to promote *Electric Arguments, *his surprisingly raucous new collaboration with producer Youth, played the interview cool the whole way. The legendary Beatle (and vegetarian) was thrown only slightly off his game after asserting that, in a pinch, even the Dalai Lama might eat a human.

But in the end, Colbert, the consummate hyper-real egotist, got away with calling himself the fifth Beatle and even, in the interview's final moments, got himself knighted.

"Sir Stephen," McCartney gestured, grabbing a bottle of water. "Arise!"
