Unsurprisingly, November's release of the Wrath of the Lich King expansion has everything to do with the game's renewed popularity. In addition to selling a record 2.8 million copies in its first 24 hours of availability, the expansion has set "a new record for monthly PC-game sales" by moving 4 million units since it hit shelves on November 13.

"Not only is* Wrath of the Lich King still doing well, the base World of Warcraft game and the *World of Warcraft Battle Chest are performing better than last year," said Bob McKenzie, GameStop's senior vice president of merchandising,
