This week several sites announced that the iPhone App Store reached 10,000 applications. Today, Apple's feed of applications agreed, surpassing the psychologically important number.
Here are three ways to visualize the vastness:
- The Mosaic poster (above center) that uses the app icons to create a poster of the phone (covered by Gadget Lab)
- 148Apps' clickable version (left), including some fun stats. For example, September is the most active month in the App Store.
- 10kipa's MillionDollarHomepage-esque version. The icons are slightly bigger than 148 Apps, but get even bigger if the app owner paid them money.
Despite being fun ways to visualize the apps, these aren't really useful for browsing. Apple's store interface is only available through iTunes (or the phone itself). For a true web experience, check out AppShopper or the main site for 148 Apps. Each include a profile page for each app, as well as useful ratings and lists.
