A bad back already took David Tennant out of his London run as Hamlet. Now doctors say The Doctor needs surgery to correct the problem — leaving prospects of his return for 2009 episodes of Doctor Who lost in time and space.
Tennant’s back problem is a chronic condition. Once the pain in his "too, too solid flesh" pushed him out of Hamlet, Tennant agreed to pursue surgery. There is nothing more than rumors as to how severe the procedure will be, how long the recovery will take or how that recovery will affect plans to shoot Tennant’s final mini-season of Doctor Who.
Meanwhile, in better Who news, the official trailer for this year’s Christmas special hit BBC this week. License fee laws won’t allow for direct viewing in the United States, so we turn to YouTube (above).
The next of four Who specials set to air in 2009, which will be Tennant’s final episodes in the role, arrives around April.
