Kevin Rose’s one-year-old microblogging/file-sharing service Pownce has been acquired by Six Apart and the service will be shut down on December 15, it announced today on its blog.

Pownce just launched last year in a private alpha and finally went public in January. It looks like the service will basically die, and that Six Apart just wanted to reel in the staff.

Both developers Mike Malone and Leah Culver will join the blogging software company’s engineering team, and Kevin Rose and Daniel Burka will hop on board as advisers.

“We’re bittersweet about shutting down the service but we believe we’ll come back with something much better in 2009. We love the Pownce community and we will miss you all,” writes Culver.

An export service has been set up to transfer all Pownce posts into TypePad, WordPress or Vox.

No details on the transaction itself were available.
