Broadcom has announced a new chip which will put speedy 802.11n into cellphones. And not only that: the chip (named the BCM4329) also contains Bluetooth and FM.
This is good news for battery life -- we know that the biggest power drain in cellphones comes from the various radios inside. Draft N is also a lot faster than the current b/g cellphone Wi-Fi -- while the new Broadcom chip doesn't use the multiple antennae available to the Draft N spec, it will still speed along at up to 50Mbit/sec.
More important, as Daring Gruber points out, is that you can finally switch your home network to N-only. Previously, using a cellphone on the home Wi-Fi killed speed for every device on the network.
Finally, the built in FM radio has a rather neat extra function: it can transmit audio to another FM receiver. This is essentially what the Griffin iTrip does when it sends music to your car stereo, only now it will come free with you phone.
