Though BBC America has been offering episodes of various shows in the iTunes store practically since June of 2008, the network only had two seasons of shows pop up to No. 1 on Apple’s charts — until an unlikely third parked there recently.
Top Gear’s 11th season hit the top of the iTunes charts for two weeks before falling to its current No. 2 position behind the more seasonal Charlie Brown’s Christmas. Surprisingly popular in the United States and the United Kingdom across all demographics, the long-running car show’s mix of cool test drives and auto-driven stunts outruns the standard, humorless, testosterone-fueled car show.
And, celebrities including Doctor Who’s David Tennant and Shaun of the Dead’s Simon Pegg stop by each episode for a quick chat and test lap.
