It's Veterans Day in the U.S., when Americans give thanks to those who served their country in time of war. The U.K. performed its memorials this past weekend, and it's the BBC that's doing the most aggressive programming on the issues of remembering those who risked their lives for their families and their countries.
While controversies and debates continue over the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan, these memorials also honor the shrinking ranks of those who fought in wars less steeped in doubt and disagreement -- such as the fights to turn back totalitarianism during World War II and the First World War.
In the BBC7 production "Memorials To The Missing," Stephen Wyatt presents an award winning drama recounting the internal battle to ensure that the lost soldiers of the Great War received decent graves and proper burials with honor.
In the short documentary, "The Lost Veterans", Andrew Purcell studied the struggles of some of the 150,000 U.S. veterans of various military conflicts living in shelters or on the streets.
The BBC is also working on new production looking at the experiences of British and American vets returning from Iraq and Afghanistan that will air in coming months.
