One of the VCs behind Twitter had early preliminary discussions this week in a meeting with the open-source textbook startup Flat World Knowledge, co-founder and chief marketing officer Eric Frank told wired.com.

Spark Capital’s Bijan Sabet posted a tweet yesterday on Twitter that hinted at the meeting.

“i had a mtg with a company today & one of their execs had the title ‘Chief Openness Officer’,” the tweet reads.

The only company we were aware of with such a position is Flat World Knowledge, a startup wired.com covered back in August. Frank confirmed the meeting in a phone call.

Frank and Jeff Shelstad, both former textbook industry execs, founded the company in 2007 with the intent of offering open source books online for free while charging for print copies and accompanying study aides.

Flat World Knowledge has already received funding from angel investors totaling about $1.4 million and is currently gearing up for a round of Series A funding.

It would appear that it is already attracting some big names.

Sabet declined to comment on the record.
