The last surviving member of the Jimi Hendrix Experience, drummer Mitch Mitchell (pictured to Jimi's right), passed away at the age of 61 in a Portland, Oregon hotel room on Wednesday. The publicist for his recently completed Experience Hendrix tour said the cause of his death was not known.

"We're all devastated to hear of Mitch's passing," said Janie Hendrix,
chief executive of Experience Hendrix in a statement. "He was a wonderful man, abrilliant musician and a true friend. His role in shaping the sound ofthe Jimi Hendrix Experience cannot be underestimated." She added that he had enjoyed himself on his final tour: "Over the course of the recent tour(Mitch) seemed delighted with the interchange with the other musiciansand the audiences. There is no question that he was doing what heloved."
