Who would have thought, 20 years after the movie first hit the screens, now the merchandising kicks in.
The Princess Bride had everything: Fencing, fighting, torture, revenge, giants, monsters, chases, escapes, true love, miracles...(but no action figures) Now, over at ThinkGeek, they have provided some icing on the cake of all fans of the Rob Reiner film which introduced
Robin Wright (aka Jenny from Forrest Gump, aka now Sean Penn’s wife) to the world, gave us Peter Falk (aka Columbo) as Fred Savage’s (aka kid from The
Wonder Years) grandfather and included a WWF wrestler in a lead role.
Introducing the Dread Pirate Roberts Action
Figure...
According to the marketing spiel, the
Dread Pirate Roberts Action Figure has 8 points of articulation in exciting
"en garde" pose. Perfect for mock fights against Inigo Montoya
(unfortunately, there is no action figure of the Spanish swordsman who dedicated his life to revenging his father).
To make up for this though, there is a
t-shirt with a fake “My name is sticker...” that clearly states to any who read it: "Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die." Throw in t-shirts featuring slogans by Fezzik: “Anyone want a peanut?” and Vizzini’s “Inconceivable”.
So, my Christmas list is sorted, how about you?
The only question left is, which Dread
Pirate Roberts is it the action figure of, you see Westley isn’t the real Dread
Pirate Roberts, he inherited the title from the previous Dread Pirate Roberts, only he wasn’t the real Dread Pirate Roberts either...
