George Kliavkoff, the man credited with planning NBC's attack on the digital world, is leaving the company.
Kliavkoff, the first chief digital officer at NBC, who was instrumental in forming Hulu and directing NBC's online Olympics coverage, is exercising an option in his contract to leave at the end of the year.
"Much of my work here is done," Kliavkoff reportedly wrote in an internal memo.
While his next venture is unclear, Kliavkoff remains bullish on the digital world, calling this the "best time to start, run or invest in digital companies."
His announcement comes just a couple weeks after NBC president Jeff Zucker announced plans to cut $500 million out of the network's annual budget.
