By any reckoning, Jerry Yang should be out of a job.

The Yahoo CEO spent a good part of the year fighting off an unsolicited bid by Microsoft which valued his company at about three times what it's worth today.

When Google threw him a bone with an ad search arrangement he wasn't able to keep them on board when the going got a little rough with the Justice Department.

We don't wish anyone ill, exactly, but things are tough all over and Yang has become a poster boy for a CEO who can't get'r done (except maybe to ensure that another 1,500 of his employees are out of work).

The trees are shaking in Valley: Twitter's Jack Dorsey recently got demoted to chairman and replaced by Evan Williams. Tesla kicked CEO Ze'ev Drori to the curb last month. And before the financial crisis took hold of the markets, Alcatel-Lucent said CEO Patricia Russo was ousted. AMD CEO Hector Ruiz stepped down.

Plenty of tech executives will suddenly have more time to spend with their families in the coming weeks and months. We think there are five top guns in particular who need to go.
