Akamai, web content distributor for top news sites like CNN, NBC, BBC and Reuters, registered a record 8.5 million "global visitors per minute" in its Net Usage Index for News at 11:00 P.M EST on Tuesday night.
The previous record of 7.3 million was reached on June 22, 2006 when Ghana beat the U.S in the World Cup.
CNN.com alone attracted more than 27 million unique visitors on Election Day – the highest in the site’s history.
