Spike TV’s 2008 Scream Awards telecast Tuesday delivered more than honors to the best movies in the oft-overlooked genres of fantasy, sci-fi and horror.

And we’re not talking about George Lucas’ green laser light show or Tim Burton’s airborne entrance in a hot-air balloon.

Sandwiched between presentations of awards in categories like "Most Memorable Mutilation" and "Ultimate Scream" during the star-studded geekfest came fresh footage from several upcoming movie projects: Zack Snyder’s adaptation of Alan Moore’s epic graphic novel Watchmen, Catherine Hardwicke’s teen vampire flick Twilight and Marcus Nispel’s reboot of Friday the 13th.

The new Watchmen trailer (embedded), revealed sleeker, more polished scenes from the highly anticipated 2009 release.

Director Snyder and stars Malin Akerman, Carla Gugino and Jeffrey Dean Morgan were on hand to introduce the first public footage screened since the premiere of The Dark Knight in July.

Viewers caught spectacular closeups of characters like inkblot-masked antihero Rorschach (pictured above), crime-fighting vamp Silk Spectre, Nite Owl II and an extended slow-motion falling scene featuring The Comedian.

The Friday the 13th clip (right) delivered a preview of the bevy of bloody ends awaiting the ill-fated counselors of Camp Crystal Lake.

Although the money shot of machete-swinging killer Jason Voorhees evoked goosebumps, the look and feel of the clip rang more of torture-porn movies like Saw, Hostel and Turistas than a return to the roots of the genre-defining franchise.

The Twilight teaser (right) retooled some of the same bits seen at 2008’s Comic-Con, with a few new scenes spliced in.

Did you catch either teaser? Does the retelling of Jason’s blood-thirsty rampage look enticing or more like a clone of Rob Zombie’s Halloween?

Did the Watchmen footage, as Dean Morgan promised, "blow your mind"? And are you still excited for Watchmen, despite the alternate ending rumors and legal complications?
