Fans of Fox's futuristic sci-fi thriller Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles can breath a small sigh of relief: The network has handed down an order for an additional nine episodes to complete the season.
The lifeline couldn't have come at a better time: Rumors that Sarah Connor might be one of the network's first casualties of the season have been swirling through the internets, due to low ratings and a steadily decreasing viewership.
Series creator and director Josh Friedman credited his show's fan base with the good news: "Big thanks to all of you who agitated on the internet about our future -- it's nice to know you care.... Like our endo brethren, we are damn hard to kill."
Friedman told Wired.com in September that the second season of Sarah Connor
had a beefed-up budget, allowing for more action and CGI-heavy glimpses of the grim, apocalyptic future. More money also meant new cast additions, like *Battlestar Galactica universe alum Stephanie Jacobsen *as a freedom fighter on the lam, and Garbage lead rocker Shirley Manson as a Terminator masquerading as Catherine Weaver, the CEO of tech company ZeriaCorp.
Monday's taut episode drew parallels between John Connor and war veterans, featured
Connor's bot bodyguard Cameron (pictured) facing down an upgraded robo-assassin, and uncorked chillingly creepy scenes between undercover automaton Weaver and her terrified human tot. But while the episode made for a great hour of television, it clocked a paltry 5 million viewers.
Are you excited by the order for extra episodes? Will you continue tuning in to watch the struggle to save humankind from an army of blood-thirsty machines? Or have you moved on to shinier sci-fi TV pastures?
