Insomniac has finally kicked off the Resistance 2 multiplayer beta, and for once my Qore subscription actually felt like it was worth something: granting me early access.
After a busy weekend of play, I have to say that the most appreciated -- and surprising -- inclusion is split-screen. The feature is not only available in the competitive mode, but more importantly -- for me, at least -- in the cooperative mode as well.
With online multiplayer hogging most of the spotlight these days, it does seem like fewer and fewer games are including split-screen, which is a shame.
Nothing beats having a friend over, blasting away co-op style. And that's exactly what I got to do in Resistance 2, along with the up to six other online players we were teamed up with in our quest to defeat the Chimera in a series of frenzied encounters.
I'm admittedly not a huge fan of multiplayer deathmatches and the like -- co-op's really my thing -- but from my experience over the weekend,
Insomniac's great implementation of split-screen has assured that I'll purchase the title upon release.
It's also interesting to note that not only can you play the co-op campaign offline in split-screen, but you can also play it alone, with the opposing forces adjusted accordingly -- the game features a dynamic system that will balance the difficulty level for the next wave of enemies, as players join and leave missions.
