Remember when Microsoft mandated a 350MB size limit for all downloadable games on the Xbox Live Arcade? Apparently that restriction doesn't apply to Valve, who released the 629MB Portal: Still Alive this morning.
"We don't want to limit developers from a creative standpoint," Microsoft's Aaron Greenberg told Destructoid. "So if they want to create bigger, more immersive-style games for digital distribution, we absolutely want to support that."
"At the same time, you want to also not forget about efficiency. There are ways you can make your games smaller and more efficient and not impact the experience."
Greenberg is right. The increasing size limits are a slippery slope. Now that Microsoft has allowed Valve to top 600MB, how long will it be before these games top 1GB? 5GB? More?
