Superstruct is the first in a new genre: Massively multiplayer forecasting game. In other words, an MMO with a conscience.
A project from the Institute for the Future, the idea is to forecast possible human disasters on a global scale – presented in the form of an interactive virtual world – with the goal of bringing people together to generate possible solutions.
The game is set in 2019, with economic collapses overwhelming the world's populations, and a supercomputer predicting the extinction of the human race 23 years down the line.
The game is played by accessing forums, blogs, videos, wikis and other online spaces – all staples of alternate reality games (ARG) – with players interacting with each other, trying to make sense of the world that is presented to them.
Superstruct is set to run for six weeks, ending on November 17.
