iPhone rhythm game Tap Tap Revenge is about to get some real music cred, with the announcement that a Nine Inch Nails edition of the game will soon hit the iTunes App Store.
The game -- priced at $5 -- will include 16 tracks, all taken from Nine Inch Nails' latest releases, Ghosts I-IV and The Slip. Some of the tracks will be specially edited for the game. The band-specific release will also sport a new look and feel, inspired by NIN's dark aesthetics.
So how did the game's developer "tap" into Trent Reznor? Tapulous CEO Bart Decrem tells Wired that the introduction came by way of their shared attorney. "Trent Reznor had already been playing with both Tap Tap Revenge and Twinkle, our social networking app, and the idea for a custom edition of Tap Tap Revenge came naturally."
Tap Tap Revenge offers a simplified Guitar Hero-like interface, in which you tap on colored balls as they reach the bottom of the screen, with the occasional shake thrown in. So far the game has been a free download, with the NIN edition set to be the first premium version offered.
A firm release date has yet to be announced, but the game is expected to come out sometime this month.
