TOKYO -- Wii Music tops the Japanese charts on its first week of release, but with only modest sales.
Despite the incredible amount of promotion Nintendo has put into the title -- you can hardly watch anything on prime-time TV without catching a commercial for the game -- the musical instrument sim only moved 92,000 units, well below the typical first-week sales of most chart-toppers.
Then again, Nintendo-published titles -- especially anything in the Touch! Generation series -- tend to have legs, and so depending on how well the game is received, we could be seeing Wii Music in the charts for some time to come.
Even more good news for the publisher: Rhythm Tengoku Gold for the Nintendo DS has finally surpassed one million units sold.
Below, Media Create's top 10 for the week of October 13-19. The list shows this week's rank, with the sales figures showing this week's numbers, followed by total sales.
