TOKYO -- Never underestimate the power of fashion in Japan.
The Nintendo-published Wagamama Fashion Girls Mode -- "wagamama" translates as "selfish" -- for the Nintendo DS tops this week's top 10 best-selling games. Girls Mode puts you in the role of a clothing boutique manager, as you coordinate your customers to success, using the more than 10,000 items of clothing and accessories included in the game.
I expect it has turned into the choice game for DS-toting Harajuku girls throughout Japan.
Note that if you take into account the two versions of Atlus' Devil Summoner: Kuzunoha Raido tai Abaddon O for the PS2, it would have in fact ranked #1 with combined sales of 88,000.
The regular edition of the RPG title comes with a soundtrack CD, while the Plus edition includes an updated version of Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne, with the main character of Dante replaced by Summoner's Raido.
What about last week's #1? Wii Music is already down to fifth place in its second week of release, below even Rhythm Tengoku Gold. It appears that there is in fact a limit to how successful a Wii Something title should be in Japan.
Below, Media Create's top 10 for the week of October 20-26. The list shows this week's rank, with the sales figures showing this week's numbers, followed by total sales.
