One toy-inspired ’80s afternoon cartoon franchise lost its movie deal this week, but another knows its locked and loaded for an August 2009 release (and "knowing’s half the battle").
With the news that He-Man: Masters of the Universe died a slow death at Warner Bros., it’s comforting for the action-figure fan in all of us to know that G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra is set for its summer blockbuster spot next summer.
This reporter cornered Jenny Calzacorto, an executive with Joe director Stephen Sommers’ company, and wouldn’t let her leave until she said something about Duke and his comrades. She’s a savvy young executive, and she likes working in the business — so, naturally, she didn’t tip much.
"(G.I. Joe) is into post now, and we hope the fans are going to love it," Calzacorto said. "A lot of work has gone into making sure we include all of the characters you want to see — Snake Eyes, Storm Shadow — all of the favorites."
In a time when Watchmen is bogged down in the courts, George Lucas is defending the latest Indiana Jones and another Batman movie is in limbo, Calzacorto assures fans that Joe is complication-free and full speed ahead.
There’s no word yet if the end of the movie will include a PSA like those above.
