FriendFeed added a few new features this week to its social network aggregation service. The micro-blogging and commenting service added a few new social networks options to its aggregation tool. It also added an API to allow developers to take advantage of its chat-like real-time feed.

Facebook, Joost, BackType, Twine, and Wakoopa joined the already formidable list of 43 other services available in its listing tools.

The new API feature adds the ability to take a real-time feed and integrate it in your own tools and pages. The real time feature, added recently, adds a chat like update to your status updates. All in all, the social networking service seems to just keep innovating.

I can't yet visualize the kind of value the new API functions will provide in applications that the available real-time widget doesn't. Others are much more enthusiastic. Either way, there's got to be some pretty creative ideas out there for this kind of API.

The site itself is most useful if you're looking to combine feeds of several of the social networking services you may be using. It's also convenient for commenting back on other people's tweets or status updates. It's worth checking it out if you have at least two of the 48 services FriendFeed lists.
