Developers who build social network applications for Facebook can now also market them to Friendster users.
Friendster has become the first major social network to implement both Google’s OpenSocial and Facebook's platforms, Friendster announced yesterday.
While Friendster appeared to drop off the map over the past few years as Facebook exploded, it actually moved its focus to Asia, where they have become the number one social network with over 60 million registered users and over 45 million monthly unique visitors.
They also recently closed an additional $20 million in funding, hired a new global CEO, Richard Kimber, and are actively hiring more staff in its Asian offices.
And most importantly, for developers, the Friendster demographic does not cross-over as much as MySpace and Facebook users, Friendster claims.
"Friendster has only 22% overlap with Facebook, therefore 78 percent of Friendster’s 57 million monthly unique visitors – or 45 million monthly unique visitors – are incremental for Facebook developers," the release states.
Considering that ads are allowed both in the application and on profile pages, there is a large untapped market here.
