We're still years away from a big-screen team-up of Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, Ant Man, et al, but The Avengers are assembling on a small screen near you in time to herald that blockbuster's arrival.
Marvel Animation and Film Roman (the company animating King of the Hill, The Simpsons and Marvel Super Hero Squad) are teaming up to produce 26 episodes of The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes.
Produced by Ciro Nieli and Christopher Yost, the series is timed to run alongside and enhance Marvel's rollout of superhero movies leading up to the eventual Avengers movie in 2011.
Avengers-related movies in the pipeline for Marvel include an Iron Man sequel, an Incredible Hulk sequel, a Thor feature, an Ant Man action comedy and a Captain America period adventure. Once all those are in theaters, the groundwork is laid for the massive Avengers box office jackpot at the end of Marvel's skillfully inked rainbow.
