Renaud Dehareng's experiment in viral marketing looks to be gaining some traction. The Belgian "internet entrepreneur" created the website GrowingBuzz to publicize his brother's artwork and test out theories of online advertising.
For the right to advertise on the "future most famous painting in internet history" advertisers need only increase the current bid on the page.
The concept has been live since October 2, and though the ad spend was stuck on $11.50 the first few times I checked in, it now appears to be growing. Colorisprint.be paid $630 to be the current advertiser.
Renauld's extremely low tech Blogger page deflates the concept a bit, but if increasing numbers of people keep checking in, the concept will start looking less like a pyramid scheme and more like a viable revenue stream.
Now if he can just get people beside his brother (who made the last bid for $500) to boost the price, he might have something valuable on his hands.
