How and why did the Fab Four, who rarely collaborate with anyone anymore, hook up with contortionist wonders Cirque du Soleil for a eye-candy bonanza in Vegas called Love? The documentary All Together Now has the answers, which you can catch at 150 theaters for one night only on October 20. The screenings precede the October 21 release of the Love DVD.
To its credit, All Together Now isn’t shy about the conflict that went on behind the curtains. Although the collaboration had its origins in the friendship between the late, great George Harrison and Cirque du Soleil founder Guy Laliberte, the production evolved to encompass the input of Yoko Ono, Ringo Starr, Paul McCartney, Olivia Harrison and George Martin.
No minor egos, those.
But since its staging in 2006, Love has won over its fair share of cynics, mostly because it’s a stone-cold spectacle that feels like it could fly apart at any minute. That gorgeous chaos-in-motion has always been Cirque’s calling card, and one of the chief reasons that the remaining Beatles signed on for the affair.
"We’ve always liked to associate ourselves with slightly crazy people," McCartney explains in the Love trailer at right, "because we’re slightly crazy."
