As anyone who has met someone from Austin knows, it's this incredible town in Texas where everybody plays music, the beer flows like wine and the women flock like the salmon of Capistrano. It's no Aspen, but Austin is a great town for these reasons among others and one of its crown jewels is Austin City Limits, a three-day music festival that kicks off today.
You can watch every band live at pretty good quality for free, thanks to AT&T Blue Room, which is already webcasting live from the event.
Multiple camera angles keep the viewer engaged while three video quality options (100, 300 or 700 Kbps/sec) allow the slower-connected in on the fun. Double-clicking the screen toggles into full-screen mode, which doesn't look half bad at 700 Kbps.
But my favorite part about watching this, so far, is that Blue Room hasn't subjected me to the yappings of cheesy, over-caffeinated, demographically-appropriate hostbots in between acts – just unadulterated sights and sounds from various points around the sunny Texan grounds.
It's nice to watch something this sunny from rainy New York. I can't say every artist who's performing is my cup of tea, but I appreciate that the option is there.
