Dear Nintendo: Let's get Vs. Excitebike out on Virtual Console.
Penny Arcade Expo traditionally concludes with the final round of the Omegathon, a grueling three-day videogame championship in which one of twenty entrants will win a trip to Tokyo Game Show and a bunch of spending money. The final game is a surprise every year, and it's usually something wholly unexpected. This year, it was Vs. Excitebike.
While most NES players know of Excitebike, much less known is the Famicom Disk System followup, a two-player version only released in Japan. It was thus an interesting choice for the final round of the show, as people know how to play Excitebike, but very few have actually played it competitively, with another rider on the course.
My point is simple: Lots of journalists and thousands of tastemakers -- the mavens who go to PAX and spread the word to their friends about all the cool stuff they've seen -- have now gotten a taste of this game. Now's the perfect time to resurrect it and bring it to Virtual Console.
