The Chicago Tribune hopes to pull Chicago’s teens away from their Facebook pages for a few minutes and engage them in some real journalism.
The newspaper is launching a weekly student-run paper to all of the city’s public high schools, both in print and online, which will be overseen by staffers at the Tribune.
The Mash will not only assist young aspiring journos, including making contacts with high profile sources, but also serve up a few well positioned advertisements at a time when revenues are in steep decline -- they’ve already lined up deals with Nike and Verizon.
There isn’t much content on the site thus far, however, and the design looks like it is trying to mimic social networks, but without any of the functionality.
At least they're hitting all of the serious issues facing teens.
What news is hot on The Mash today? Lindsay Lohan’s MySpace page.
