Emmy Not only are Americans increasingly uninterested in TV, they're uninterested in watching TV award ceremonies, too.

Last night's Emmy Awards ceremony scored a preliminary 3.8 rating and 9 share among adults aged 18 to 49, which is the lowest in Nielsen's People Meter history and 12 percent lower than last year's Emmy ratings, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Roughly 12.2 million people tuned in to watch the Emmy Awards last night, potentially setting a new low -- the previous record for the least-viewed Emmys ceremony goes to Fox's 1990 ceremony, which was watched by 12.3 million people.

The numbers are preliminary, though, according to Hollywood Reporter, so it's possible that last night's ceremony could eke out a higher number of viewers than the 1990 ceremony.

UPDATE: Anne Elliot, a Nielsen spokeswoman, says the preliminary numbers may be a reasonable predictor of the national figures that will be available tomorrow morning.
