The intellectual property laws in place are fundamentally flawed and they need to be tossed. Or so argues the International Expert Group on Biotechnology (pdf). The group suggests that growth in biotechnology innovation is stagnating even as intellectual property claims are growing. The upshot, says the group, is that there needs to be a new era of IP that encourages cooperation and trust.
It sounds like a great plan. And since we're laying out our wishes, we'd also like a blessing of unicorns and one million dollars.
