080909_mostblogged Yahoo may not have announced a redesign, but some bloggers have uncovered URLs for a new Yahoo News layout which includes a “Most Blogged” section.

The list is presumably based off its recently acquired Techmeme-like service, Buzz Tracker, which displays related blog posts and those that link back to an article, but the idea seems a bit outdated.

The *Washington Post *had a deal wih Technorati back in 2005, and it now uses a widget by AOL's Sphere that boasts clients like The Wall Street Journal, Time, Reuters, and CNN.com.

Yahoo's attempt differs slightly in that the blog links are a subset of related stories, and do not appear directly alongside the content.

A "Twittered About" section would make a story more dynamic and timelier than a list of blogs, although a 140 max on text limits the amount of spin.

Regardless, Yahoo benefits by more attention to Buzz Tracker, and the exposure this could provide to bloggers, as Yahoo is still the number one online news site, should make them happy.

As blogger Amit Agarwal points out, to view the redesign, just change the 's' in the url of a news article to 'story'. While is lasts, anyway.
