Jerry Yang sent out an email yesterday to Yahoo staffers saying that they are looking at costs and how they can act more efficiently as an organization, but there was no mention of layoffs, according to VP of corporate communications Brad Williams.
"Yahoo! has been exploring ways to streamline our processes and bring new agility and efficiency to how we work as an organization. As part of this effort, we have engaged Bain & Co to help us identify opportunities for improvement. This work is well underway, with the ultimate goal of positioning Yahoo! to achieve long-term, sustainable growth," said Williams in a statement.
We reported earlier that rumors (via Valleywag) had been circulated of a “memo” announcing layoffs to bolster the company's bottom line before the third quarter reports, the period of which ends September 30.
No word on whether or not there ultimately will be layoffs as part of this effort.
