Mobile user-generated content revenue (UGC) will rise from nearly $1.1 billion in 2008 to more than $7.3 billion in 2013, mostly due to ad-supported social networks according to a study from Juniper Research, a U.K.-based telecoms analyst firm.
The UGC market also includes personal content delivery and dating services, currently the biggest revenue driver which social networking is expected to surpass by next year.
This is good news for the top social networks who have begun to put more of their focus on a mobile strategy. Hi5 recently released a mobile version in 26 languages. And both Facebook and MySpace have had mobile sites for a while now where users can check feeds and upload content to their profiles.
Friendster, which now focuses most of its efforts where it rules in Asia, launched their mobile site this past May and is likely to benefit most from another finding in the report that the Far East & China regions will be most popular in terms of mobile user number for mobile social networking.
The report also claims the number of active users of mobile social networking sites is expected to rise from 54 million in 2008 to nearly 730 million in 2013.
