Author Eoin Colfer has been commissioned to pen a sixth installment of the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series.
The late Douglas Adams, creator of the legendary Hitchhiker books, wrote the last volume, Mostly Harmless, 16 years ago.
Adams died of heart failure in
2001 but said in interviews that he'd hoped to someday write a sixth book.
Colfer, a best-selling author in Ireland, told BBC News that at first he was "terrified" and "semi-outraged ... that anyone should be allowed to tamper with this incredible series," but that he's delighted for the opportunity.
Adams' widow, Jane Belson, told the BBC she fully endorsed the resurrection of the franchise: "I love [Colfer's] books and could not think of a better person to transport Arthur, Zaphod and Marvin to pastures new."
The new edition, titled* And Another
Thing...*, is slated to hit shelves in October 2009.
