With Devotion, Baltimore's poptronica standout Beach House made one of the finest albums of 2008. It's looking to close the year on a high note, with a new single, a short tour and a confirmed spot at the top of the critic industry's year-end best-of assault. Fade to black.
this audio or video is no longer available"Used to Be" was delivered on Monday via knockout music playlister Imeem. It's another slipstreaming mixture of Victoria Legrand's ethereal vocals and carousel synths, soundtracked to Alex Scally's jagged but prudently applied guitar. Good stuff. It's not as cathartic as "Heart of Chambers" or Lynchian as "Gila," but it's new to you.
Legrand and Scally are hitting the road again, landing in dreamy Big Sur on September 27 and wrapping on December 11 in Massachusetts. Please advise: Beach House is a mellow, hypnotic live show, perfect for date nights and broken hearts. Moshers are advised to find their ultraviolence elsewhere.
