Picture_20 Oh, how nice it is to hear a fresh band that knows its way around their instruments. That’s what happens when you attend Berklee School of Music in Boston: you learn music performance and theory really, really well — or at least everyone I ever met from there did.

The same rule applies to Apollo Sunshine, a group of Berklee grads who recorded Shall Noise Upon (Headless Heroes, September 2) in the summer of ’07 in the Catskills of New York "in the house next door to the original Uncle Sam." This consummate music sparkles with attention to detail and a subconscious grasp of harmony, counterpoint and other elements of music theory. Check out their live Bach cover.

The song below, "Singing To The Earth (To Thank Her For You)" finds them in a gentle mood but these guys get pretty rough and tumble too, as a brief visit to their MySpace page demonstrates. No matter what style they’re working with, they bring the quality goods — or so I thought, anyway. As always, your mileage may vary.

Take a listen to Apollo Sunshine’s "Singing To The Earth (To Thank Her For You)":
