Quirky sketch comedy show Little Britain is determined to make a big stateside splash with a jaunt to the silver screen.
British comedy duo David Walliams and Matt Lucas (pictured, in character) have been slaying audiences for years with their satirical Monty Python-style short character skits. Nothing is off-limits for the pair, who unabashedly don fat suits, stringy toupees, wheelchairs, fake teeth and latex prosthetics to poke fun at their countrymen.
Hollywood won't be the first American crossover for the talented twosome: On Sunday, the duo launched Little Britain USA on HBO, reviving fan favorites along with fresh gags and sketches, including a pair of overenthusiastic bodybuilders and a foul-mouthed grade-schooler.
And now, with a feature film in the works, it seems as though Walliams and Lucas are hoping to follow in the footsteps of fellow pond-hoppers Sacha Baron Cohen and Ricky Gervais.
But are audiences ready a big-screen Little Britain?
These days, the wry humor of Gervais and prankster antics of Cohen alone are almost a guaranteed box office gold mine. But would the often-grotesque portrayals by Walliams and Lucas draw big bucks? Comment below.
