It would be wrong to close out September 23 without a bow to a jazz legend, perhaps the jazz legend of all time.
John Coltrane was born in North Carolina but it wasn't long until his compositions and permutations changed the world.
His influence extends far beyond jazz. From Jimi Hendrix and Santana to The Stooges and The Minutemen, his saxophone transcended genre and merged the mainstream with the avant-garde.
He also transcended philosophy. Raised a Christian, Coltrane would go on to experiment with Islam, Hindusim, Kabbalah and much more, before giving way to the Space Baby in the sky.
Coltrane's music, meanwhile, has survived time's arrow stronger than ever. Here's hoping Generation Xbox passes A Love Supreme onto its mesh networking progeny.
