Google may acquire Valve Software, a Bellevue, Wash.-based game maker, according The Inquirer, who reported the rumor from the Austin Game Developers Conference.
If Google is chasing Valve, it may not be for the game business -- more than likely,it's the content distribution technology. Valve Software runs a digital distribution platform, called Steam, which has an estimated 15 million active user accounts, and can be used for distribution of copyrighted content.
We're not questioning the accuracy of the report, but it's worth noting that there were no details in The
Inquirer piece other than the fact that "Google is going to be buying" Valve.
Google declined to comment. Valve Software didn't return calls for a comment.
