How we love firmware updates. They're the modern day equivalent of Go-Faster Stripes; after market add-ons which will enhance your ride, only they're free. And in the case of the new Eye-Fi update, they actually do make your gear go faster.
The update, to be released on October 5th, will double the speed of the card's wireless transfer, from the current 350KB/s to 700KB/s. It will also allow the cheaper Eye-Fi cards to be upgraded vie Eye-Fi's configuration software: The Eye-Fi Home, for example, can be updated to use the Skyhook geotagging service or upload direct to online photo-sharing sites. Fees apply, but it certainly makes the initial buying decision easier.
Eye-Fi has also added two new online destinations for your photographs: They can now be sent winging through the ether towards Adoramapix or Apple's MobileMe. The folks at Eye-Fi have obviously been busy. Too busy. C'mon, Eye-Fi. Release your cards in Europe, already.
