Dr. Horrible and his cohorts (still) have their sights set on global domination -- at least, for the internet.
Starting Tuesday, the soundtrack to* Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog*, Joss Whedon's straight-to-the-web musical, can be downloaded from iTunes. Geeky musicphiles can sing along to the handcrafted hits that appeared in the show, thanks to a set of liner notes and lyrics available on the official Dr. Horrible website.
And that's just the beginning. Horrible co-creator Zack Whedon recently told MTV Movie Blog the DVD will include a featurette on the meteoric popularity of the first episode's release in July, which crashed the official Dr.
Horrible site and skyrocketed the show to the top of the iTunes chart.
Although the DVD's exact release date is unknown, Zack Whedon and his collaborators, Maurissa Tancharoen, Joss and Jed Whedon, plan to pay tribute to the ever-growing genre of fan-generated content on the web: Three viewers who submit video applications for consideration into the show's elite society of villains, The Evil League of Evil, will be selected for inclusion as an bonus feature on the disc. (The submission site is not yet live.)
Additionally, a fresh slate of original webcomics will be released by Dark Horse Comics on MySpace over the next few months. The first strip, Be Like Me, offered insights into the origins of Dr. Horrible's nemesis, the self-absorbed do-gooder Captain Hammer.
Zack Whedon, who is penning a web-friendly comic detailing the back story of Dr. Horrible sidekick Moist, hinted that each character from the sci-fi musical is fair game for the next few installments -- including the nefarious villain Fake Thomas Jefferson, who was played by Cloverfield scribe Drew Goddard in the musical.
